Portrait Projects Overview

Beginning in 1997, John Bakker began a series of community based installation projects that highlight the intrinsic dignity of individuals and the networks that constitute those communities.

The Old Town Portrait Project is the sixth of these projects. It is sponsored by a neighborhood art center in Chiocago’s Old Town called Art on Sedgwick, the art center that draws us all together. Still in process the artist is accepting photos of people who live, work, worship or shop in Old Town; when complete it will consist of about 400 portraits on 317 panels. To participate click here
